At Resonance Security, we take pride in welcoming unique minds to our growing team. This time, we sat down with our newest hire, Jack Galpin, who joins us as Senior Business Development Specialist. From deep dives into history and football to his thoughts on weaponized deepfakes, Jack’s journey into cybersecurity is nothing but extraordinary. Here’s what he had to say.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’ve always had a knack for connecting with people. I guess you could say I’m a natural communicator. I can somehow pull out random facts from my memory to relate to almost anyone—don’t ask me how I know them, I just do.
I’m deeply passionate about history, philosophy, and exploring different cultures. I’ve spent the past two years living in Argentina and even got to experience the World Cup there. On top of that, I’m a diehard Manchester United fan. Football (the kind played with feet!) is a big part of my life, and I’m always plugged into a game or update.
When I’m not working, I’m absorbing content—videos, podcasts, documentaries—anything that feeds my obsession with learning faster and better. That mix of people, exploration, and passion keeps me moving.
2. Why did you choose to work at Resonance Security?
Cybersecurity isn’t unfamiliar territory for me. I worked on a Symantec campaign five years ago and, since then, have taken on various technical roles. What drew me to Resonance was the way it approaches security—hands-on, full-spectrum, and actually useful. It's not just theory; it’s real, practical security work.
The Web3 focus is also a breath of fresh air, and the platform itself is incredibly well-designed. When I found out that our CEO, Charles, came from a similar tech sales background as me, it made perfect sense. He brings a grounded, client-first approach and an openness to tools and systems that push the envelope. Meeting him and the team only confirmed that this was where I wanted to be.
3. What’s one security threat that businesses still underestimate?
Weaponized deepfakes. AI-generated voices and videos are so convincing now that scammers can mimic CEOs well enough to fool employees into wiring money, leaking data, or worse.
Back in 2019, a UK energy firm CEO was tricked into transferring $243,000 to a fraudster using AI voice cloning. That scammer mimicked his boss’s German accent and tone perfectly. Just last year, a Hong Kong employee got duped out of $25 million using the same trick.
The tech is getting better every day, and most companies still don’t know how to spot it.
4. If you could create your own security tool, what would it solve?
I’d build something called "Phantom Passwords." Right now, the biggest vulnerability is stolen login credentials. Whether through phishing, breaches, or someone shoulder-surfing in a coffee shop, once your password is compromised, you're exposed.
Phantom Passwords would change with every login. The moment you use one, it becomes useless to anyone else. Even if a hacker steals it, it’s already expired. Think of it as a key that melts after unlocking your door. It eliminates the need for traditional password managers and removes most common attack vectors.
Alright, time for a quick rapid-fire round:
